Kovaro vs Shopify
The dominant e-commerce platform: hosted online stores with best-in-class checkout, a massive app ecosystem, and an embedded AI assistant (Sidekick) — built around selling products, not running your whole marketing operation.
Fact-check policy: every price below was read from the linked public pricing page on 2026-07-17. Nothing on this page is estimated or invented. If something is out of date, it changed after that date.
Where Shopify wins
- The best e-commerce checkout in the industry: Shopify Payments, Shop Pay one-tap checkout, fraud tooling, and PCI handling built in — Kovaro routes checkout through your own Stripe and has nothing comparable to Shop Pay's conversion network
- An app store with thousands of vetted apps plus a huge theme, developer, and agency ecosystem — whatever niche need you hit, an integration exists
- In-person selling: full POS hardware and software for retail, markets, and pop-ups — Kovaro has no POS at all
- Enterprise-grade scale: multi-currency, international markets, B2B/wholesale, and Shopify Plus infrastructure trusted by the world's largest DTC brands
- Mature inventory, shipping, and fulfillment tooling with discounted carrier rates
- Sidekick AI is free on every plan and operates directly inside your store admin with real access to your live commerce data
Where it stops
- Payment processing fees stack on top of the subscription (2.5–2.9% + 30c online, plus 0.6–2% extra if you don't use Shopify Payments), so real monthly cost is well above the sticker price
- No autonomous marketing engine: no scheduled autopilot social posting, no AI video, and social publishing/analytics require third-party apps that each add their own monthly fee
- No AI layer that runs the business — Sidekick answers and acts when prompted, but there is no standing strategy loop that watches results and adjusts cadence on its own
- The website builder is store-first; content-heavy or service-business marketing sites, SEO structure, and brand identity generation are thin without themes, apps, or a designer
- SMS is separately billed and region-limited natively; serious email/SMS programs usually mean adding Klaviyo or similar at extra cost
- No mobile app generation — a branded app means buying Tapcart or hiring developers, and app costs (email upgrades, reviews, subscriptions, upsells) commonly add $100–500+/mo for a typical store

The honest verdict
If your business is moving physical products at real volume, Shopify is the industry answer and it is not close: the best checkout in e-commerce, Shop Pay, fraud tooling, POS for in-person selling, and an app ecosystem that covers essentially everything. We would rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise — and Kovaro can even sync products with an existing Shopify store.
What Shopify does not do is run your marketing. Social publishing is manual, there is no AI video or autopilot cadence, email beyond basics means Klaviyo or similar, and Sidekick acts when asked rather than standing watch. Costs also stack: processing fees plus the app subscriptions that fill the gaps. Kovaro's store is lighter than Shopify's, but the site, brand, content, email, SMS, and the daily running of all of it are one subscription.
Frequently asked questions
Is Shopify better than Kovaro?
For some jobs, honestly yes: The best e-commerce checkout in the industry: Shopify Payments, Shop Pay one-tap checkout, fraud tooling, and PCI handling built in — Kovaro routes checkout through your own Stripe and has nothing comparable to Shop Pay's conversion network. The trade is what happens after: Payment processing fees stack on top of the subscription (2.5–2.9% + 30c online, plus 0.6–2% extra if you don't use Shopify Payments), so real monthly cost is well above the sticker price. Can Shopify run my marketing automatically?
No. Shopify has no autonomous posting engine — content goes out when you (or a tool you add) publish it. Kovaro generates, schedules, and publishes to connected accounts on its own cadence.
